• Hi, I'm Micky!

I like making things. I originally studied software development and worked as a software engineer for many years, but over time I felt pulled toward something more creative. I discovered that working with my hands gives me a deep sense of fulfillment and focus. I explored many several different forms of artistic expression, and eventually found my way to metalsmithing.

    • I design and handcraft jewelry using silver, gold, brass, and various gemstones. Each piece is fabricated by hand using traditional metalsmithing techniques including soldering, sawing, filing, stone setting, and polishing. I’m especially drawn to small-scale work — tiny pieces with geometric stones and clean, modern forms.
    • Geometry plays a central role in my designs. I’m inspired by clean lines, balanced compositions, and negative space. I’m also influenced by the subtle world-building of sci-fi and fantasy; some pieces carry a slightly otherworldly or futuristic edge.
    • My creative work takes many forms, including the design and construction of bolo ties in a combination of wood, metal, & stone. Each bolo begins as 3D modeled design, then is cut on my CNC router or laser cut before being carefully sanded, polished, and assembled by hand. Many bolos also incorporate traditional metalsmithing techniques such as hand-set stones.
    • I also enjoy programming and soldering LEDs for art installations and building LED sculptures. You can learn more about my LED work here: https://mickymakes.art
    • All of my creations are handmade in my workshop in Salt Lake City.
